Cumbernauld kennel owners evacuate pets amid wildfire

The owners of Crowbank Kennel in Arns, Cumbernauld, had to evacuate dogs and cats in their care after a wildfire broke out.

Eran Yehudae and his wife were putting the 25 dogs and 10 cats to bed on 10 April when they were forced to evacuate the property.

The couple had to make multiple trips to get all of the animals to safety.

He told STV News: added: “It was very scary. Flames were basically on the road. It was like out of a movie. We had to drive through them to get to the remaining dogs.”.

He said they worked on the evacuation, escorted by firefighters, from 10pm until around 1am.

Several of the business’ neighbours, including Off The Leash (Stepps), helped house the animals overnight.

The fire didn’t reach the property and the couple were able to get back in at around 6am on 10 April, but they were re-evacuated later that day and re-opened on 11 April.
