Somerset Council consults on dog controls

Somerset Council has launched two public consultations on plans to extend its public space protection orders (PSPOs) on dog control in the south Somerset area.

The council is proposing to extend two existing orders; the first relates to a dog exclusion zone in part of the Ninesprings Park in Yeovil, while the second covers dog fouling and keeping dogs on leads in public places across the former South Somerset District Council area.

The existing PSPOs are due to expire, and the council is seeking the views on extending the orders for a further three years.

The PSPO relating to Ninesprings covers the lower lake area and would bar people from taking dogs into the zone. The area is rich in wildlife and the order aims to protect the habitat.

The second PSPO, relating to dog fouling and keeping dogs on leads, aims to protect the public and local wildlife.

The dog fouling consultation can be found here and the consultation on a Dog Exclusion zone in Ninesprings Park can be seen here. The consultations run until 5 May 2025.
