Warwickshire council considers extending dog controls

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, in Warwickshire, wants to extend its dog control order.

The council’s Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), which came into force in March 2021 for three years, requires owners to clear up when a dog has fouled, keep dogs on a lead in some areas, put dogs on a lead when asked to do so, and keep dogs out of some areas.

The council wants to extend the order in its current form for a further three years, as part of this, is holding a public consultation.

Councillor Richard Smith, cabinet member for planning and regulation, said: “We want to carry on with our mission of ensuring that any irresponsible dog owners are adequately punished for their actions. We feel that the current order is working, and would like to extend it so we can carry on with our good work.

“We appreciate any views on this matter, so please get in touch if you would like to provide any comments.”

The consultation closes at 5pm on 9 February.
