People keen for more dogs at weddings

Almost half (46%) of people love the idea of having dogs at weddings, with more than a third (39%) saying they had been to weddings with dogs in attendance, new research reveals.

The research from the wedding experts at Hitched.co.uk shows a third of wedding guests have thought about taking their dog as their plus one to a wedding, while 34% of couples would allow it, depending on the venue.

The most common roles for dogs include starring in the first dance (42%), walking a bride down the aisle (39%), being the Dog of Honour or Best Man (37%), or taking ring bearer responsibilities (30%).

The research comes as Hitched.co.uk has launched a first-of-its-kind wedding invitation that can be used to invite dogs to weddings.

Zoe Burke, leading wedding expert and editor of Hitched.co.uk, said: “Our research shows that almost half of people love the idea of dogs at weddings, but that just over a third of wedding guests have been to weddings where dogs were invited. What’s more, almost 10% said they wish they had been to a wedding with dogs, so we know that guests are keen for more dogs at weddings.

“With more than a third of couples saying they would be happy for guests to bring their dogs to their weddings (depending on the venue), we wanted to make it as easy as possible for them to invite those dogs to their big day. So, we’ve created a free downloadable invitation that couples can share with their desired pup party attendees.”
