Sandwell Council consults on dog controls

Sandwell Council, which covers towns including West Bromwich, Tipton and Oldbury, is consulting about whether or not to renew or extend dog controls in the borough.

A number of new rules have been tabled by the local authority as it looks at renewing two borough-wide public space protection orders (PSPOs), which have been in place for the past three years and are coming to an end.

Currently, anyone in charge of a dog must pick up their dog’s faeces. However, the council is asking whether dog walkers should be required to carry poo bags.

In addition, it would also be an offence to allow a dog into a children’s play area, or enclosed sports areas such as tennis courts.

Councillor Syeda Khatun, Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for public health, said: “We all want to live in a pleasant place where people treat each other with courtesy and respect. I would encourage anyone to take a look at the consultation to let us know if they believe this approach is appropriate.”
