North Northamptonshire Council agrees new dog controls
North Northamptonshire Council has agreed to impose a new unified Public Space Protection Orders (PSPO) for dog control across the whole of the region.
There are already PSPOs in place for three areas in North Northamptonshire – Wellingborough, Kettering and East Northamptonshire, but they are due to expire later this month.
The rules will include keeping pets on leads in parks and gardens, and not taking them into some cemeteries and play areas.
However, there will be no restrictions on the number of dogs a person can walk at the same time.
Under the PSPO, dog walkers must pick up faeces and dispose of it in an appropriate manner.
Fixed penalty notices of £100 could be issued for breaking the rules, with fines of up to £1,000 if a case goes to court.
The council’s executive aims to implement the PSPO as soon as possible.
