Dog walkers warned to keep dogs off water at Richmond Park after oil spill
The police has warned dog walkers to keep dogs on the lead at Richmond Park, after oil/diesel has leaked into Beverley Brook.
Royal Parks Police told Twitter followers: “We have been informed by the Wildlife officers that oil/diesel has leaked into the Beverley Brook in #RichmondPark. Please can all be careful and keep dogs out of the water.”
Social media posts have been showing the spill coming from the Pyl Brook stream, which flows into Beverley Brook, with Thames Water reportedly confirming the source of the pollution to have been caused by a “third party”.
Thames Water is reported to be working on preventing the oil from spreading further downstream.
Friends of Richmond Park, a charity dedicated to the conservation and protection of the park, wrote on Twitter: “An oil spillage has flowed through Beverley Brook in Richmond Park. The Royal Parks has said that there are no reports of any impact to wildlife at present, but Thames Water and the Environment Agency are monitoring the situation.”
