Wrexham PSPO to be reviewed in 2023
Wrexham County Borough Council has confirmed that the order requiring dogs to keep off sports pitches and on a lead on pavements and public roads in the area will remain in place until at least 2023.
The measures have been in place across Wrexham since early 2017 and carry for a Fixed Penalty Notice for those who fail to comply. The PSPO Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) was renewed 2020 and will remain in place until at least 2023, the council said.
Under the order dogs are not allowed on marked sports pitches, bowling green playing surfaces, in children’s play areas, skate parks, tennis courts, and multi-use games areas.
In addition, dogs are not allowed off the lead in car parks and visitor centres in all country parks, but they can be let off the lead when not in these areas.
Walkers must keep dogs on a lead while on a public road and pavement – or if you are asked to put one on your dog anywhere, at anytime by a council official. In addition, poo bags must be carried at all times.
Darren Williams, Chief Officer Environment and Technical, said: “Across the county borough there are many responsible dog owners who care not only for their dogs but for their surroundings and others enjoying it.
“However, we do get reports of dogs fouling on sports fields which is obviously unacceptable and dangerous. We also receive complaints about dogs running loose, and sometimes causing distress, to others in the area. For this reason I ask that everyone stays up to date with the PSPO and what’s expected of them when walking their dogs.”
