Norfolk council to vote to renew restrictions on dogs

North Norfolk District Council’s cabinet is set to vote on whether or not to renew its public space protection orders (PSPOs) for dog control.

The orders, which include an outright ban or a dogs-on-leads order, have been in force for the past three years and the council is to consider renewing them following a public consultation.

The majority of the respondents to the consultation said they would like to see the controls continued. However, just 39 people offered feedback to the council, with 44% calling for changes to the restrictions.

A report to councillors said: “The council receives regular complaints regarding dog control issues.

“Dog fouling presents a risk to public health in terms of transmission of disease as well as a nuisance. Public safety, and enjoyment of public spaces for all persons require that dogs are properly controlled.

“These PSPOs address that purpose.”
