Meet the Professional: Letichia Anderson, Doggy Enrolment Team Leader, Bruce’s

The first instalment of our new Q&A interview series with dog care professionals across the industry features Letichia Anderson, Doggy Enrolment Team Leader at Bruce’s.

Q. How did you decide to work with Bruce’s?

A. I had a friend who already worked for Bruce’s and I couldn’t believe she got paid to spend the day with dogs. I was looking to do veterinary nursing so thought it would be a good experience, there was a vacancy so I came along and I’ve never left – still here 10 happy years later.

Q. What does your day-to-day job involve?

A. I spend my day having the pleasure of speaking to exciting new puppy parents and helping them in their journey to becoming full-grown dog parents. I answer lots of questions and help owners prepare their pups for their first day at school with us.

I also speak to customers throughout the week telling them all about what their dog has been up to at daycare, the adventures they’ve had, the friends they’ve made and offer helpful advice when needed.

Q. Would you recommend anyone looking for a new career to consider the dog care industry – and why?

A. Absolutely. Pet care is one of the fastest-growing industries to work in. There’s a huge amount of opportunity, particularly in a growing business like ours for personal development in a sector that provides unlimited doggy cuddles, wet noses and muddy paws.

Q. What would you say is the best aspect of your job?

A. Naturally it’s the dogs. But also watching the puppies grow, getting to know them and their families and working with a huge variety of people from different backgrounds. For me to walk into the office and be greeted by lots of waggy tails every day is an absolute privilege.

Q. What do you most look forward to when you go to work every day?

A. Of course the dogs, but also, being able to speak to owners and give them updates as to what their furry friend is getting up to makes their day and mine too.

Q. What aspects of the dog care industry would you like to see improved?

A. Enrichment is something that has been a big focus for us at Bruce’s over the years. We have come a long way in understanding that each dog’s needs are different and they need as much mental stimulation as they do physical.

At Bruce’s, we have different zones and fields to suit the needs of different dogs. I feel that this is something that other dog care businesses could also implement.

Q. What was the funniest incident that ever happened to you while working with dogs?

A. We work with a lot of pampered pooches (including my own) who often come with their own particular needs and requirements, for example one doggy would only drink bottled Evian water and another insisted on watching BBC Two after a busy day at daycare.

I’m also really impressed by the extensive wardrobes of some of our doggies with their own embroidered jackets and blankets.
