Lincoln council warns dog walkers after tree damage in city

City of Lincoln Council has issued a warning and is promising legal action after a number of trees had bark torn from them by dogs in local open spaces.

The purpose of this is “usually to strengthen the dog’s teeth and claws”, according to the council, which added that one of its tree officers recently pulled a dog tooth out of a tree in Temple Gardens in Lincoln.

The council said: “A number of trees have had bark torn from them by dogs in our open spaces. This can cause significant damage and in some cases can kill the affected tree.

“This is criminal damage, and the council will take legal action to prosecute anyone whose care the dog is in at the time of the offence.”

It added that it is a “growing issue that is being publicised by various districts across the country”.
