Leicestershire kennels plan gets green light
Plans for a new kennels business in Measham, Leicestershire, has been approved despite concerns about noise and extra traffic.
Applicant Wayne Winter had requested permission to create “10 individual holdings” for dogs on currently unused land to the east of his home in Gallows Lane to create Winshaw Woofies.
However, the location of the business, on high ground above Measham, sparked concerns that more dogs in the area would inevitably mean more noise.
Measham Parish Council also objected, claiming open runs at the kennels meant noise disturbance was likely. Concerns about noise were also raised in relation to the kennels being a 24/7 boarding operation.
In addition, Leicestershire County Council’s highways team raised fears about increased traffic in Gallows Lane.
However, North West Leicestershire District Council approved the application, but said that several conditions must be met, including a limit of “no more than 25 dogs” at the kennels at any one time to limit disruption.
The council also said that to “protect the free and safe passage of traffic”, Winshaw Woofies must not make any alterations that detrimentally impacted access to its site. This means the business cannot install any bollards, barriers or gates for fear of preventing vehicles from “standing clear of the highway”.
