Hundreds protest against Conwy dog control plans
More than 1,000 people turned up at a mass dog walk in Conwy, North Wales, at the weekend to protest against plans to ban dog walkers from the beach.
Conwy County Borough Council wants to ban dog walkers between Colwyn Bay and Rhos-on-Sea through a new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO). The current PSPO will be in place until October 2023, when the proposed new draft order would come into force.
The council is also considering plans to ban dog walkers from Penmachno Playing Field and from Rhos Point to the promenade entrance, opposite College Avenue, in Rhos on Sea.
Protest organiser Aaron Haggas, of Rhos On Sea, told the BBC: “There’s no dog parks here. We’ll have to go to places like Rhyl and Prestatyn, and that feels like encroaching on their territory.”
The consultation, which closes on 4 October, can be viewed here.
