Groomer crowdfunds to develop claw cutting training aid
Muddy Paws Express Dog Wash & Grooming Service in Saltcoats, North Ayrshire, is trying to raise £8,000 to manufacture a new claw cutting aid.
The groomers have worked with a design engineering masters student from Strathclyde University to develop the training product and recently won a pitching competition through the West Coast Accelerator Programme for the product.
Salon owner Hazel Patterson said: “I have been a dog groomer for five years now but spent the previous 20 years as a podiatrist for NHS Scotland. Due to my foot health background I quickly realised that there are a lack of training aids available to learn certain tasks like claw cutting on dogs. This then subjects dogs to inexperienced groomers or students.
“We are shown a diagram of a dogs claw during training but this is very different to handling the real thing. This results is a very fearful dog and lots of bleeding quicks.”
Patterson added: “We have a quote of £8,800 from a Glasgow-based design company to make the product almost market ready. We are looking for your help and support to make our dream a reality.”
