Former Darlington kennels could be transformed into doggy daycare

Plans to transform former boarding kennels in Darlington, County Durham, into a premium doggy daycare have been unveiled.

The site, on Staindrop Road, was previously operated as Farncombe Boarding Kennels.

Plans submitted by Matt Bell, of The Dog Barn, detail ‘suites of daycare lounges’ that will provide both sleeping and playing areas, a newly built indoor play barn, and an office building.

The applicants have also acquired a section of neighbouring farmland that will be securely fenced to provide a safe area for dogs to run around. The facility will also offer a pick-up and drop-off service.

The plans state that the facility, which could create up to 12 jobs, will operate five days a week from 7.30am until 5.30pm.

In addition, the proposal includes the planting of more than 350m of hedging, around 100 new trees, and the establishment of a wildflower meadow.

Bell said: “We are excited at the thought of developing this new facility. It will turn a rundown site into a smart and sought-after local service and provide some great jobs for local people.”
