Flintshire doggy daycare business submits third expansion bid

A Flintshire doggy daycare business owner has made a fresh expansion bid to increase the number of dogs it can accommodate.

This is the third attempt by Caroline Grierson, who runs Meadow View Doggy Daycare in Northop, to secure the green light from the council, as her previous two attempts were declined following concerns over noise levels.

The new, proposed premises would allow for the business to accommodate 60 dogs during the day and a maximum of 15 overnight.

In previous applications, Ms Grierson noted that there is a “large waiting list”; she notes that the fresh application contains a noise assessment report, which “clearly demonstrates ‘indication of the specific sound source having a low impact, depending on context.”

Amongst other measures, the report advises that dogs are kept in fully enclosed kennels from 23pm until 7am, for those staying overnight.

A member of staff should also be meeting the dog owners during drop-off and collection times to avoid dogs’ stimulation and barking.

What’s more, dogs should be kept on a lead until they are in the centre so that noise is controlled.

In her previous planning application documents, Ms Grierson noted that the expanded business would provide three new job positions for part-time employment, with the possibility of one or two of them becoming full-time “quickly”.

“Our reviews and likes on our Facebook page speak for themselves and I and my staff work tirelessly making sure dogs are well cared for and that we continue studying towards further qualifications to ensure the highest standards of dog care at all times,” her previous application statement read.

“The last thing we want is to cause a nuisance for owners of nearby properties and work at all times to ensure dogs are not allowed to persistently bark we ensure the dogs are well exercised during the day so they don’t find the need to bark although impossible to prevent completely barking dogs are redirected and barking is
discouraged.”
