East Lothian grooming salon given green light

East Lothian Council’s planning department has given the green light to transform a domestic garage on the village’s Campbell Road.

The Campbell Road salon is expected to groom between four and six dogs a day between 9am and 5pm Monday to Saturday, with no business on a Sunday.

The application attracted no objections from members of the public and was approved by the council, with four conditions, including the operating hours. The business will be operated on an appointment-only basis, with only one appointment being scheduled at a time.

The planning officer’s report said: “If, as is proposed, the existing garage component of the house is used as a dog grooming business during these hours and days, it would not, neither by its nature nor by its scale of operation, be harmful to the amenity of neighbouring or nearby properties.

“Consequently, the change of use of a small part of the internal configuration of the house would not be harmful to the residential character and amenity of the applicant’s house or of the neighbouring properties.”
