Dog theft law set to be delayed

New rules that would see dog thieves jailed are set to be delayed and may be shelved, media reports suggest.

The proposed laws would see dog thieves put behind bars for up to five years to combat the spate of thefts.

However, the Sun on Sunday has reported that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak looks set to delay the landmark Animal Welfare Bill, with sources claiming there is not enough time in Parliament to get the new laws through.

A government spokesman told the newspaper that is normal for bills to be delayed over constraints with parliamentary time.
