Dog dies after being left in boarding business’s van during heatwave

A dog has died after being left in a van while being in the care of a dog boarding business in Hertfordshire.

According to a social media post made by the dog’s owner, Ffion James, the pug was left with Country Boarding for Cats & Dogs, in Baldock, just hours after James and her husband had tied the knot.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, the kennel business reportedly said that Jeremy (one of the owners) picked up Luna on 8 July from the wedding venue and brought her to the kennels at 3pm.

“When he arrived back, he was urgently called in to fix a system issue which was affecting customers in reception,” the Facebook post read.

“This distracted Jeremy from notifying a staff member to come and collect the dog, as would the normal procedure.”

“The blame for this incident lies entirely with us,” it continued, “as the business owners and not with our wonderful employees.

“From now on, Jeremy will no longer be involved in transportation or care of animals in any capacity at Country Boarding.

“We have already been in touch with North Herts Council and we expect to meet with them next week to discuss the incident,” it concluded.

It is obviously a tragic accident and completely awful for the dog and it’s guardians, but one that could have been avoided. However when you run a pet care business, that animal and their welfare that you are dealing with at that moment in time is your priority, nothing else. The customers in reception could have waited 10 more minutes until he sorted the dog out.
