Cleethorpes beach dog ban could become permanent

A seasonal ban on dog walkers on Cleethorpes beach, Lincolnshire, could become permanent unless attacks stop, councillors have warned.

The seasonal ban on walking dogs on the central beach in Cleethorpes lifted at the end of September, but if the spate of dog attacks continues councillors may decide to make the ban all-year-round.

Councillor Marie Green told Grimsby Live: “It would be a matter for councillors to decide on a permanent ban. But we don’t want to lose our freedom to walk dogs in parks and along the beach.”

Councillor Bob Callison told Grimsby Live new signs with warnings to dog owners are being discussed to make the rules clear to all visitors to the beach.

“We have to protect dogs and owners. We make the rules to protect everyone. We have to think about our wildlife and SSSI status because once it is gone, it is gone. We have to be clear with dog owners and everyone who comes on to the beach to respect it,” he said.
