Holyrood Dog of the Year returns for 2022

Holyrood Dog of the Year is coming back on 9 May in Edinburgh.

Organised by Dogs Trust and The Kennel Club, the competition is open to dog-loving MSPs and their canine companions of all ages, breeds, shapes and sizes – pedigree and crossbreed alike.

MSPs who are unable to bring a dog can enter with one of Dogs Trust’s rescue dogs.

Both Dogs Trust and The Kennel Club aim to promote responsible ownership as widely as possible, especially for ‘pandemic pups’ that are still adapting to a more open Scotland.

The event also encourages open dialogue on dog welfare issues with MSPs having the opportunity to meet with dog welfare experts from both organisations.

“The competition celebrates the unique bond between dogs and their owners and aims to promote responsible dog ownership, which is this year’s theme,” Dog’s Trust said.

“Not only is responsible dog ownership integral to improving dog health and welfare throughout Scotland, it also helps ensure the nation’s dogs lead happy and healthy lives.”
