Hove dog walkers campaign against plans for skate park on green space
Dog walkers and owners are fighting the council’s plans to turn a green space in West Hove into a skate park.
Brighton & Hove City Council are currently hoping to regenerate the facilities and green spaces in the area, describing them as “underused and run-down”.
Amongst the plans are proposed skate, pump and roller spaces, at the west end of the old Pitch & Putt space, along with a new roller rink at the east end of the space.
But, dog walkers and dog owners in the area are arguing the plans will take away “valuable and much-used community green space”.
On an online petition, they explain that Hove Lagoon is “enormously well-used by dog walkers, exercise groups and young and old people”, adding that the dog-owning and walking demographic has “massively increased” since the lockdowns.
“This should be actively included in planning strategy to avoid displacement of dog walking to create issues in other areas,” it concludes.
