Doggy daycare employee wins Prince’s Trust Award
A doggy daycare employee from Gwent, South East Wales, has won a prestigious Prince’s Trust Award.
Charlotte Wookey won the HSBC UK Breakthrough Award, which is for young people who have developed new skills to enable them to make positive steps in facing their challenges and stabilising their lives.
Following a troubled family background, Wookey was put into care, fell in with the wrong crowd, developed a drug addiction, and ended up homeless.
Things started to change when she was given a flat and was put on a drug rehabilitation programme.
Through Jobcentre Plus she was given the opportunity to take part in the Prince’s Trust, and began volunteering at All Creatures Great & Small Animal Sanctuary, which led to her securing her job at the adjoining doggy daycare.
She has now been working at the daycare centre for almost seven months and has already moved up to the role of supervisor.
Wookey told the Mirror: “I’m looking towards the future. I’m dreaming of owning my own business. It’s crazy, it’s really emotional and I don’t get emotional over anything.”
Wookey was presented with her award by HRH the Prince of Wales at the Prince’s Trust and TK Maxx & Homesense Awards at a star-studded event ceremony held at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, London.
