A new independent trade association for dog businesses is set to be launched.

The news comes after the Association of Dog Boarders notified Companies House that it is to give up its legal status as a not-for-profit and it will shortly cease to exist.

Industry expert Randle Stonier has founded the new trade association, known as the Dog Business Association.

He said: “Rather than see the industry left without any representative body, and given that there is currently no not-for-profit trade association dedicated solely to dog care professionals, this felt like exactly the right moment to change that.”

Stonier added: “In a former life, I chaired the Institute of Promotional Marketing for a number of years. That experience taught me something important: government and regulatory authorities will only engage meaningfully with large, representative trade bodies. If dog care professionals are ever to have a genuine seat at the table with those who seek to regulate us, we need a powerful, unified presence – speaking with one voice.

“That is my hope for the future. I’m realistic that it will take a couple of years to build, alongside my other commitments. But there’s still a little life left in this old dog and I would love to see the industry rally around a platform that gives dog care professionals a powerful, lasting voice.”

The initial website for the planned trade association and an outline is live at thedba.org.uk. The Dog Business Association is open for expressions of membership interest, as well those who may wish to help shape the trade body’s future.
