Cannock Chase Council is consulting on new dog controls, which includes limiting dog walkers to being responsible for no more than six dogs at a time. The proposed dog control public space protection order (PSPO) also includes: • removing faeces when dogs foul; • carrying a bag or other suitable receptacle for removing dog faeces and to show these when requested to by a council or police officer; • excluding dogs from children’s play areas, tennis courts and multi-use games areas; • keeping dogs on leads when in or near a road and to put dogs on a lead when directed to by a council or police officer. Councillor Richard Craddock, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services and Sustainability, said: “Our public spaces are vital to the wellbeing of our communities, and it’s important they remain welcoming, clean, and safe for everyone to enjoy. “These proposed measures are about striking the right balance between supporting responsible dog ownership and protecting shared areas. I would strongly encourage residents to take part in the consultation and help us shape a policy that reflects the needs of our district.” The consultation is open until 24 June 2026.
