North Northamptonshire Council is consulting on whether to extend dog controls in the area until 2029.

The council’s current Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) was introduced in 2023 for the whole of the North Northamptonshire area.

Currently the order covers dog fouling on land, dogs on leads in certain identified areas of public land, dogs on leads upon request, and the exclusion of dogs on certain areas of public land. It does not include restricting the number of dogs that can be taken onto land.

The council is not seeking to make any amendments to the order at this stage.

Cllr Kirk Harrison, Executive Member for Regulatory Services, said: “The existing order ensures that everyone can enjoy our open spaces and all dog owners know what rules are in place.

“Now we are looking to the next three years and whether the current Public Space Protection Order should stay in place and would welcome feedback from residents – including dog owners, town and parish councils and anyone with an interest in the dog control PSPO.”

The consultation is now live and will run until 27 July.
