Dog walkers could now be fined if they are caught with pets off lead in a large area of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. New powers have been introduced in a roughly half-mile area of the town centre, covers the junction of Regent Street and King Street, as well Market Place through to Priory Plain. Dog walkers could be fined £100 if they are caught with their pets off the lead. The new powers were requested by Norfolk Constabulary, which asked Great Yarmouth Borough Council to introduce them as part of the Public Spaces Protection Order, which covers the town. Police said its proposal for an amendment had been prompted after receiving complaints about “dog-related issues” in the area. Signs warning of the new rules will be put up across the town centre.
